Marvin D. Nathan honored with Centennial Award
On Thursday, November 14, 2013, Nathan Sommers Jacobs sponsored and was the lead
underwriter of the Houston in Concert Against Hate celebrating and recognizing ADL’s Centennial. Nearly 2,800 people attended the event, including hundreds of students who participate in ADL's "No Place for Hate" program.
The concert featured music by the Houston Symphony and was narrated by actress Alfre Woodard.
A central part of Houston in Concert Against Hate was the presentation of the ADL Centennial Award to the firm's founding partner, Marvin D. Nathan.
Mr. Nathan received special recognition for his work as a U.S. Department of Justice prosecutor and his neverending dedication to and support of the ADL and its values. He was also honored with a dinner at Bayou Music Center, highlighted by a surprise appearance by ADL National Director Abraham Foxman.
Nathan Sommers Jacobs has close ties to ADL, including attorneys who serve the organization in various leadership roles. The firm also participates in ADL’s Community of Respect program.
The event will help ADL continue its wide range of programs and services to our community that include addressing the root causes of hatred and bigotry, conducting education, community and civil rights programs, and monitoring domestic extremists and hate groups.
About the ADL
Over its 100 years, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has worked continuously to build bridges of communication, understanding, and respect among diverse racial, religious, and ethnic groups. Founded in 1913 “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all,” ADL has grown into the nation’s premier civil rights/human relations organization fighting against anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry while at all times defending democratic ideals and protecting civil rights for all.
The ADL Southwest Region, with headquarters in Houston, serves Texas from El Paso to Beaumont and all points south.
