The Nathan Sommers Jacobs’ Volunteer Initiative
Attorneys and staff at Nathan Sommers Jacobs participate in community outreach programs through the firm’s Volunteer Initiative, a program designed to encourage group participation in community outreach projects. While many attorneys at the firm regularly volunteer for and participate in charitable organizations and/or non-profit causes, the Volunteer Initiative enables all the members of the firm to work in the community as a team. The goal of the Volunteer Initiative is to participate in one community event per quarter.
8K Law Week Fun Run - 2013
Attorneys and staff ran in the Houston Bar Association’s 8K Law Week Fun Run on March 23, 2013. The event is in its 27th year and benefits THE CENTER, which serves adults with developmental disabilities in the greater Houston area.
Veterans Legal Advice Clinic
Nathan Sommers Jacobs attorneys participated in a Veterans Legal Advice Clinic sponsored by the Houston Bar Association. “Through the VA legal clinic, volunteer attorneys provide legal advice and intake for veterans on legal issues ranging from family law to wills and probate. Providing veterans just a little legal advice in hopes of making their lives easieris the least we could do in exchange for their sacrifice to our country,” said Jared Grodin, an associate in the firm’s banking section.
Arbor Day Tree Planting
Nathan Sommers Jacobs attorneys participated in the Houston Bar Association’s Arbor Day Tree Planting at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. “The Arboretum is a beautiful area of Houston that suffered as a result of the recent drought,” said Anna Virene, a shareholder who practices primarily in commercial lending. “We were excited to be part of the reforestation project.”
Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program
The firm adopted a family for the holiday season through the Houston Bar Association’s Aids Outreach Committee, providing gifts for all members of the family. “All the employees look forward to adopting a family each year, knowing that we will make a difference in that family’s holiday season,” said Kristie Ratliff, the firm’s administrator.
Bellaire Recycles Fest
Attorneys and staff participated in the City of Bellaire Environmental and Sustainability Board’s 4th Annual Bellaire Recycles Fest in November 2012. “We had a great turnout for this event where organizations and businesses from the Houston area show folks how easy it is to be a little greener in their daily routine,” said Seth A. Miller, associate in the firm’s litigation section. “The Nathan Sommers Jacobs volunteers made a big difference at the event and the City appreciated our volunteering contributions.”
Habitat for Humanity
Nathan Sommers Jacobs associates worked with Habitat for Humanity on June 2, 2012, to help build houses for families in the Houston area.
